Digital Design and Printing Methods

I attended the Frederick County Career and Technology Center (CTC) from 2016-2018 for their 2-year Digital Design and Printing Methods Program (DDPM). In this program students learn about graphic design fundamentals and well as gain experience working with printing equipment and real clients. Some of the works I designed while in the program are below.

Superhero Logo Design – Raven

For this project I had to create a logo based on the features of a superhero, then use it to create a movie poster design. Using images of Raven as reference, I created a logo of her face, then recreated her body for the poster and drew the wings.

Name Design

For this project I had to create a graphic design based on my name and my character traits and interests. This design features a view I have: I’m not a bookworm, since I’m not small and meek, I’m a book dragon, especially since I devour books. The design also features some of my favorite books. After we created the design, we had to create a business card using it, and then we got the opportunity to have a vinyl version of the design printed on a blanket.

Greeting Card

For this project I had to create a fancy greeting card, then design the envelope package design for it. The color version is the outside, and the white version is the inside of the envelope.

Door Design

Every year, CTC has a door decorating competition to show potential new students about the school and to kickoff that year’s SkillsUSA theme at the CTC Open House. Each program at the school has to decorate their door based on select criteria. Myself and two of my other classmates (who ended up as my CTC yearbook team that year as well) designed the winning door. Our design was a game board: you rolled a die to get to each space, which were opened envelope style to reveal the information.

Package Design

For this project I created a package design for a box set of my favorite book series. I had to create templates first, then fill it in with the content going on the package, the revise it to make sure all details were correct.

Soda Can Redesign

For this project I had to redesign a soda can design and create an advertisement using the final product. We printed out our designs and actually stuck them to our respective cans, then took photos to be used in our ads.

Photoshop Exploration

For this project I had to select a photoshop project tutorial to do from YouTube, then create something using what I had made. I played with backgrounds, colors, and editing photos to create a galaxy effect, then used that image to create a design for a personalization poage that could be used in the CTC yearbooks.

Line Work

I really enjoy working with lines and recreating things. As such, I happened to do a lot of that, from recreating my tech school’s logo and that of Dynamic Automotive, to creating an outline of a vinyl design being printed on a binder to creating coloring pages of myself to creating a negative of a t-shirt design for a cancer patient.

Miscellaneous Projects

These were some miscellaneous projects I did: from the logo for the year we designed the CTC yearbook, to a character recreation, to a door hanger for the school system, to a CTC t-shirt design, to an infographic on camera modes.

Certification Study Guide

Every student in the DDPM program has to take and pass the certification exam. As such, our instructor had us preparing for it from the first week of class, in which we had to create a study guide and go out and find specific terms related to the program and give examples of them. Click on the image to view the full study guide.
